I'm currently a design leader and developer in the health insurance industry. I love working with people who are creative, innovative, and excited about what they do.
I'm a South Carolina based developer and design leader within the Health Insurance industry. I have a passion for demystifying processes, simplifying workflows, and advocating for cultural change within organizations. I'm a firm believer that the best solutions are the ones that are simple, intuitive, easy to use, and easy to maintain. I'm a lifelong learner and I'm always looking for new ways to add to my skillset. Over the past few years, my organization has grown and has begun adopting the DevOps culture. That resonated with me, and I've been attempting to foster that through my work.
Until recently I was a member of a development team focused on building CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using tools such as: GitHub, Jenkins, UrbanCode Deploy, Ansible, and more. I've recently moved to a leadership position within my organization, focused on toolset modernization, process improvement, and cultural change. While I am excited to see where this journey takes me, I am always looking to continue to grow my technical skills and maintain a pulse on the current state of the industry.
That's all the "work" stuff. Outside of work, I'm a husband, soon-to-be adoptive parent, and a bonafide nerd. I love thriller novels, horror movies, and good video games. I'm a big fan of TTRPGs (Table Top Role Playing Games), and have been part of a long-running game with friends for over five years! I tend to be pretty laid back, and I'm always up for a good conversation, especially if it gets me to thinking. I believe that getting to know the people you work with is super important. Building relationships and trust is the key to building a team that is not good, but great.
I started my leadership journey. I moved from a hands-on technical team to a design leadership role where I am resposible for the end-to-end solution and design of large scale modernizations efforts.
I joined a hybrid team. This team was a mix of support technicians and developers, focusing on building and supporting CI/CD piplines for new toolsets. In this position I learned a great deal about the DevOps culture, the toolsets behind CI/CD, and really started diving more into the development of in-house tools.
Working on the same support team, I moved up into a lead role. In this role I was responsible for acting as L3 support, mentoring juniors, and finding innovative ways to improve the support processes. In this role, I got more involve in in-house development and began creating tools to reduce ticket resolution times, reduce repeat issues, and improve our junior technician's ability to resolve issues. My first application was a tool utilized to search and categorize previous tickets for easier research. While I've re-written it since then, the tool itself is still heavily used today.
This is where I got my start after college. I joined a team of support engineers focusing on the support and stability of more than 90 applications across the company. Within this role I learned to adapt quickly, learn even more quickly, and hone my interpersonal skills. The team I was on supported both in-house and external applications spanning numerous systems and technologies.
Much of my current work has been on internal tools for my current company. While I can't share that, I am excitedly working on a few projects that I plan to share soon! In the meantime, enjoy this cute AI generated dinosaur!
Do you have an opportunity you'd like to reach out about? Or a project that you'd like to collaborate on? Or maybe you just want to share your favorite Dungeons and Dragons character with me? Regardless - I'd love to hear from you!
